Anonymous: are you aware that the original ATLA/LOK is in English.. the people who write the scrips are English speakers.. just because it's set in Asian settings doesn't mean the creators are actually thinking in that language... because it's an American TV show.

nope im totally unaware it’s just my favorite series but you got me! i know nothing about it!!!

obviously i know all that. they made a show that uses various asian - mainly chinese - linguistics and exclusively chinese writing. the avatar world is mostly a fantasy version of china just like westeros is a fantasy version of europe, mainly britain. and in westeros they have all english/western linguistics for the names and places, and surprise, they speak english! the avatar world has all chinese/eastern linguistics for the names and places, and thus canonically they are “actually” speaking chinese (or something similar) in-world.

of course the voice-acting is in english because it’s an american show. that being said, the writers and creators SHOULD be thinking in chinese, and usually they do concerning avatar. they haven’t randomly made a character named Courtney or something, so that’s why it bothers me when they make english-specific grammar mentions. if you treat this series with a little more respect and seriousness than a kids show you’d realize that this stuff matters. they’re not speaking english in this universe and what we’re seeing, or hearing i guess, is like a “translation” for english viewers. canonically their voices are their voices but these people (who happen to be characters in our universe but in their universe they’re their own people) don’t speak english.

Anonymous: Do you have any actual evidence that they don't speak english in the avatar world? I know the world is based on chinese culture with other eastern influence, but it's a fictional world and to me it seems that everything points to them speaking english.

um……………………………………… there aren’t any english names for places or people or anything else……………………………………………. and they write in chinese………………………………………………… what kind of ask is this

It’s officially gone too far now.

tbh i’m really excited to find out “the truth” about the red lotus, it reminds me of the mystery surrounding amon, an element completely absent in book 2

korranews:

This week’s Korra ratings came in at 1.282 and 1.334 million viewers. This is continuing the trend of this season having the most consistent ratings ever (with a promising, steady albeit small increasing trend).
This seems to indicate that Book 3 is reaching only Korra’s core fanbase due to the extremely short notice and lack of promotion by Nick, with more casual viewers as seen in Books 2 and 3 not even aware that the show is airing, coupled with the bad time slot.
See all ATLA and Korra ratings here.
